Santikaro is a founder of Liberation Park, a
Buddhist community and meditation center in
rural western Wisconsin. In 1985, he ordained
as a monk in Thailand and subsequently trained
at Suan Mokkh Monastery under Buddhadasa
Bhikkhu, a leading 20th-century Buddhist monk,
teacher, and religious reformer. Santikaro retired
from formal monastic life in 2004 but continues to
teach meditation and Buddhist principles with a
special interest in applying early Buddhist teachings
to modern life and social realities in the West.
